Happy day everyone!
I am sharing some Spring flowers that my husband bought me the other day, just because.

Well,
deep down I think he feels a bit sorry for me these days.
He knows me so well and I think he knows I have some heavy weighing on my head.
You see every day we are inching closer and closer to our trip to Ireland.
And to be honest, as excited as I am, is as nervous as I am.
I have never really been out of the Country.
Well, let me take that back
I have been to Canada many of times, however, we drove there as growing up in Buffalo, it was a hop skip and a jump away.
And we have been to Puerto Rico once but that too was when we lived in Florida and the trip was not long nor far.
I have a fear of flying.
and this came much later on in life.
Never, ever did I have this fear when I was younger, even in my 20’s and 30’s.
I don’t talk about it much, because I try to act cool, like nothing bothers me,
who me, fear?
I fear nothing.
That is probably the impression, I give many. In fact, I know I do, because people are shocked when I tell them some of my phobes.
A lot of you already know I have a fear of driving on the highway too.
Yes, you have come to know, I have some phobias.
I’m not saying I am nut case or anything {although that is debatable too}
There are more, but that is for another time and topic I suppose.
Anyway, on top of that all, I am worried about my blog, my posts going up as scheduled,
my blog deciding to act funky while I am gone, and all these little things,
that I probably shouldn’t worry about.
Did I mention,
I worry?
I know once I get to Ireland, I will forget all about you, and my blog.
as well, I should.
Whew…you have no idea how hard I have worked since Christmas to earn extra money for this trip and to help pay for it.
I am talking way more hours than the average Joe. I am proud, and I did it.
But I do look forward to taking a chill when I get home.
I don’t have to work that hard anymore.
So back to my phobes…
That’s me…Miss Cool calm, collected, head on straight to the World, but the inner me
is a HOT
Hormonal
Mess.
I really think it is all due to my hormones and the aging process.
I bet I am not alone in this feeling
Just not everyone talks about it.
I cope though,
and I keep busy enough not to dwell on “stuff”
It is all going to be an amazing experience for my son, and our family.
I told you
my Mom, sister and brother-in-law are going as well. We are going to have a blast.
I am excited for my Mom probably the most, as she has never experienced or traveled like this a day in her life.
And we are going to create memories that will last a LIFE time, for all of us.
and you can bet I will come back with a few stories and some awesome pictures!!
I can’t wait to drink a warm guinness!
Thanks for listening to me today, it felt good just to even get that much off my chest.
XO
please don’t judge:)
Oh and in case your wondering, I embellished one of the vases with burlap and some cute little scap book goodies.
And here is just a plain mason jar I used for the other batch of flowers.
Don’t you just love fresh Spring flowers?!
Colleen Kirk
As if….who would judge you? You are having completely normal feelings and from what I can tell, you are doing exactly what you need to do to get thru it…you are keeping busy, acknowledging your fears and talking about them…we ALL have some sort of fear or another…you are not alone…and your trip with your family is going to be AMAZING!!! Don’t worry about your blog…we’ll still be here when you get home and will look forward to pictures and tales of your wonderful trip!!!! xo

Well I feared some of you may think I was crazy and what the heck I am going to Ireland, just have fun and shut up LOL…see there I go again with another fear. Thank you so much Colleen!~
Mary from CT
Hi Debbie, 🙂
Mary from CT here ~ so nice to meet you! I just read your blog about being so nervous about the trip to Ireland. I so can relate to what you were expressing. I also had the same fears and emotions when my husband & I , son & daughter-in-law went to Ireland a few years back.
To my surprise, the plane ride was a little long, but SO WORTH IT! I took in watching the clouds formations..some looked like popcorn…others looked cotton candy…it was amazing! As you go to land in Ireland..please make sure to look out a window ~ as you come closer & closer it looks like God created a beautiful q
Mary from CT
woops lol hit the post button before I finished…I was getting a bit excited for you! 🙂
As you come closer & closer, it looks like God created a beautiful quilt out of their rolling hills! It was amazing to see! We stayed in Dublin and oh, those “Leprechauns” just warmed my heart!
Please don’t think about your blog…it can wait! Take this time for you and enjoy these family memories that you’ll be creating!
You’re going to love it!
Looking forward to seeing your pics!

Debbie,
We all have phobia’s so you are not alone. I want so much to take a trip to Paris or Ireland too but I dread that long plane ride. I am not afraid to fly I am just not patient enough to sit on a plane that long!!!! My daughter has a fear of flying and when she went to Spain to study there in College the doctor gave her a mild sedative to relax her and help her sleep on the plan. She said it worked great and she did not feel druged so maybe you could talk to your doctor and that would make it easier to fly. Don’t worry about your blog we will all be here and waiting for your return and all the wonderful stories and pictures. Have a wonderful time and enjoy the way of life and all the great pubs and beautiful country side.
Kris
linda
i know once we get to Ireland you will be fine i think it is a normal thing to be a little off as we will be so far and ina strange place.Iam sure the beauty of this awsome country will take our breath away .Just hope it doesnt take to much of mine joke joke We have to laugh at ourselfs and we all know how to do that 🙂
gail
I do LOVE spring flowers! I love the burlap one.
oh my — you all will have a blast! I’m so happy that you get to experience this wonderful trip as a family! Enjoy your time spent together making memories that will last a lifetime!

I have phobias too and have kept silent about them for 7 long lonely years..
so dont feel alone or embarrassed. I have found out from many kind folks the world is full of us..
dr. oz recommends Rescue Remedy for flying– its at whole food in drops or spray.. I hope it helps..
Victoria
I’m the phobia Queen Debbie so don’t feel alone! I’ve had anxiety all my life and although I’m not afraid of flying, I can’t say I love it either! See if you can get a mild sedative to help you through it or just hit the airport bar before you get on the plane!
Cindy
Oh, isn’t he sweet. Beautiful flowers Debbie! I’m right there with you my friend. I used to LOVE to ride the roller coaster, can’t any more, it terrifies me. Used to love to fly…I dread and worry about it now. Must be something that comes with age, another something that comes with AGE…SHEESH!
You’ll have a GRAND time and I can’t wait to see pictures…
Blessings,
Cindy
Terri
Have yourself a drink at the airport before boarding that plane. Works like a charm for me when I fly!
shirley@housepitalitydesigns
I think we all have “some” fear of flying…and I think truly it is “normal” seriously…getting on the plane and knowing that you are thousands of feet up in the air (oh, am I adding to your fear..hope not)…but do not think that you are in the minority of this fear…at least you are getting on that plane and going!!…you will have the time of your life!!…I am looking forward to my trip to France with fellow bloggers in September…my fear…that I will run out of money in France!!….Just make sure that the flight attendants have a well stocked bar for you!!!…
Dawn
Your flowers are so pretty Debbie, and I know it is easy to say don’t worry, but we all still do. Maybe you should start drinking that warm Guinness first just to take the edge off. LOL
Debbie
Aw Deb, you are just a normal person with normal fears and feelings. Nobody would judge you! I love your post, and the pictures are wonderful. You are going to have a fantastic time in Ireland, and I know you are going to come back with incredible stories and pictures.
Debbie 🙂
Carol
Oh, Debbie, you are SO not alone in your phobias! I wouldn’t say I have a “fear of flying” but more of “flying anxiety” — maybe there’s no difference….lol! When we went to Spain last Spring, I was a real basket-case, as it was my first time flying across the ocean. Living in AZ, we had a number of flight changes to go through with airport “waits,” making our trip about twenty hours long. My biggest phobia came into play during this trip — claustrophobia; yep, that’s a bad one to have on a plane! I had a book to read, and I have to say, the inflight movie selection was pretty good.
As for your blog, don’t worry about it. Everyone loves you and will be anxiously awaiting your return. But, we will expect lots of pictures! Have a great time!
debbiedoo's
The good news is, I have lots of awesome guests sharing some of their creativity while I am gone here on my blog. Thank you all so much, I feel so NOT alone! I knew I was not, but like I said, we just don’t talk about these things.
Sharon
I do love fresh Spring flowers. I think the anticipation of flying is going to be the hardest part and once you get on that plane, you’ll be fine. Order a drink or two on the flight to keep you calm.
I was just thinking the other day how in my 20’s and 30’s I wasn’t nearly afraid of certain things as I am now. Some amount of fear must come with age, that and the hormones, like you mentioned. You are not alone. Love ya girl!
Teresa Maxey
Debbie we travel a lot and I’ve also come to hate the flying part. I didn’t mind it a bit when I was younger either so I know exactly where you are coming from – things just change as we age, but I’m determined not to let it get the best of me. Hang in there and you’ll be fine. Enjoy your trip!!
debbiedoo's
Thank you Teresa, so glad you stopped by and gave me your thoughts and well wishes.
Pat
Beautiful flowers ~ and yes, I love spring flowers! In fact, if I were rich I would have fresh flowers all over my house all the time. When I was young, my 3 things I wanted when I “grew up & had money” was ~ fresh flowers ALL the time 2) my sheets changed daily ~ of course, not by me! 🙂 and 3) my hair done daily. Now that was before the wash & blow dry days. Of course, I’m showing my age but hey, it’s just a number, right?
I have flown around the world and many, many places in between. I used to get all revved up & couldn’t wait ~ especially for the take-off. Not any more ~ and I think some of that comes with age. My daughter has never liked to fly and I’ve always felt so bad for her. Now she does it to get from Point A to Point B. My suggestions:
~ Remember that the flight crew want to live too! 😉
~ Sometimes the fear of flying has to do with not being in control.
~ Have your Dr prescribe something for sleep or take Tylenol PM. I assure you, the rest will be needed.
~ Stay hydrated!!!! Drink tons of water. Alcohol, coffee, tea all contribute to dehydration & when flying those are such easy beverages to indulge in. I know it’s not a favorite to visit the Lav but your body will love you!
~ Take something to read if you don’t do handwork. Enjoy the movies that are shown.
~ When you land, continue on the local time. You might want a shower but don’t go to bed.
~ The world will NOT end if the blog doesn’t behave! True story ~ 🙂
~ Relax and enjoy every single moment! You will LOVE this trip and all the petty worries will drift away.
~ Know that you will have jet lag upon returning. It’s said that it takes as many days to regroup as the number of hours of the time change, i.e., 8\9 hours difference….8/9 days to fully regroup. Again, stay hydrated when you return and don’t beat yourself up if you’re tired. It’s NORMAL!
Now, write down all your worries and then tear it up! You are going to experience a once in a lifetime trip and it’s going to be awesome!!
xoxo
Pat
P.S. I can’t imagine that any human doesn’t have phobias…and it’s ok. It’s normal. You are real ’cause you shared! 🙂
Jane B
I so totally understand your phobias! I hate flying too…..and believe a lot has to do with not flying very often. Many years ago, for business, I flew every week from New Orleans to San Fran! Got so comfortable with it after about 6 months ;0) Now, many, many years later – I’ll do everything I can NOT to fly. Go figure…I smile though remembering a good friend saying to me…”just remember, the pilot wants to live as much as you do”!! That really did help. You will have a wonderful time and will create some great memories. Enjoy!
Pat
Another P.S. ~ Get some small throws that are light, yet warm and a travel pillow for each person. I promise you DON’T want to use those on the plane. Unless they’re coming out of a sealed package, you have NO idea who has used them prior. I have a “travel” throw…comes in a plastic sleeve like an umbrella. That and the pillow can be placed in your purse or carry-on. Do it!! 😉
Can you tell I worked for a major airline?
xo
Pat
debbiedoo's
Got my pillow, and I will grab my throw..that is great advise…another thing is I get cold so fast now too. What great sound advise Pat. Thank you so much!!~ XO
Pat
You’re so welcome! I forgot to say take some comfy socks, especially if you get cold. It also helps to take your shoes off…prevents your feet from swelling so much. Exercise your legs by walking a bit and also just moving them up & down while seated.
Your trip is going to be fabulous and you’ll return wondering why you had worries. 🙂
xo

Pam @ diy Design Fanatic
I noticed a few years ago that I had a difficult time getting on a tall ladder and never had that before. Not sure where that came from! I would just try to bring as many things to comfort you on the plane as you can; a pillow, water, gum or whatever treats you like. Don’t forget to get up and walk around. Being on a plane makes you feel like you’re all cooped up, but at least you’ll have your family around you. Nothing like flying in the middle seat between two strangers for hours!
debbiedoo's
OK that does not sound like fun at all.
kim
Just get you some Zanax to take like my daughter does. She is petrified when she first gets on a plane, too and did not use to be. Her doctor gives her the pills to take the edge off. You will have such a good time and don’t even thing about the blog. Surely it will all go off without a hitch.
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions
I have a fear of flying as well, Debbie. I take a prescription to deal with it. I will be flying to Haven by myself this year. I still have to take the prescription but I prefer short flights if I have to fly at all. We may be going to San Diego in April and I think that is a 5 hour flight from here. I don’t know how I’m going to feel about it, but I do know I hate that it keeps me from enjoying visiting different places. My hope is to go to England one day. I never had such fears when I was younger either. I know 9/11 had a lot to do with it and also the TWA 800 flight {which I saw from my backyard}. My Mom always told me to take Nyquil and I know some people take Excedrin PM’s, so they sleep through the whole thing. I’m sure you’ll be fine. The days leading up to it somehow seem more tense then the actual day. Oh ~ love the flowers! : )
Angela
Bless you, Debbie, for sharing your fears, being honest and keeping it real. You’re going to have an extraordinary experience! Will keep you in my prayers!

Thank you, I know we will. XO

Oh dear Debbie! You are going to be fine and having so many members of the family along make it an even bigger blessing for some wonderful memories. I think we all fear flying to some extent. No doubt you’ll be with a big group since it’s your son’s band so you will have lots of companions. I’m so excited for you! It’s been many years since I’ve been to Europe, but I’d go back in a minute if the opportunity was there. And, yes, those darn hormones make everything worse. I know that for sure. You have such a wonderful hubby to bring you those flowers – you are one lucky lady! I for one cannot wait to hear all about your trip. Don’t worry about blogs and such things – just try to enjoy this wonderful experience, and as a past band mom, I truly congratulate your son and his band – this is a great honor. Take care – What is it they say? “Keep Calm and Carry On”. Peggy
debbiedoo's
Your so sweet Peggy. Thank you so much. Dang hormones. I asked my husband tonight if he was nervous, he said NO not all.
Jane
Debbie, we ALL have phobias!! And I can’t think of very many people who actually like getting on a plane. For me, it’s all about distraction, bring a good book, some magazines and enjoy the movie. Bring lots to snack on, have a drink and relax! I always think of Hilary Clinton and the 67 trips she took to foreign countries in one year. And there are people who fly every week for work and celebrities that are always jetting off to far away locations. For them it’s just a way of getting from one place to another.
Have a great time and don’t worry about your blog!!
XO,
Jane

Well, your flowers and adornments are as cute as always. I don’t like flying either. I have not flown in many years and drive everywhere. I do hope to go to Ireland someday though so guess I will have to buck up to do that. I think part of it, for me, is being out of control….of having to place my safety in someone else’s hands because I want to control my own destiny. You will have a ball. Knock back a couple of glasses of wine on the trip and you will relax and arrive before you know it. You can do this!!! xo Diana

I know I can!

I’m not a big fan of flying either. But, I’m sure you’ll have a GREAT time and will remember the vacation and not the flight.
Beautiful flower pics! 🙂

My friend you are not alone, we all have some type of phobia! When I hit my 20’s I developed a fear of getting sick, always thinking I had something bad and trying to diagnosis myself…well I can proudly say that I’m still the same way now in my 40’s LOL! Just dealing with it better!
Your going to have an awesome time on your trip, can’t wait to see all the beautiful pictures!
Jane @ Cottage at the Crossroads
Debbie,
We all love you because you are so real and human! I think we all have phobias of some sort but don’t admit to them as you so honestly did. I think it is marvelous that so many of your family members are going as well. It will be a trip of a lifetime! I highly recommend Zanex which I took the last time I flew. It just cuts the edge but doesn’t zone you out.
Your husband did “good” with the flowers!
debbiedoo's
Thank you Jane…believe me, I plan on having a ball no matter how I get there.
Linda
I think the hormonal thing just heightens what’s already there. I’ve been there and it does go away somewhat. Enjoy yourself in Ireland. We will all be here when you get back Just know you are not alone.
Linda @ Itsy Bits And Pieces
Dealing with anxieties can be so hard…for me they are always worse at night! You’ll be surrounded by those you love, and that flight will be over before you know it…and you will have a wonderful time! XO
Judy
Debbie, I know how you feel. I am pushing the feeble years, way more than you my dear, and I had never flown in my life and I was scared with a capital S. Two years ago we flew from San Francisco to Vancouver BC. I had a very strong Bloody Mary before boarding and vowed that I would not sit by the window. Well, I didn’t but before the flight was over, I was fighting my hubby for the window seat and I never looked back up. It was beautiful and fascinating and life changingand I wish it had be a longer flight. I don’t THINK I will be scared again. Well, maybe with just a small S..Have a great time and your flowers are beautiful. Sweet hubby..Happy Weekend..Judy

That is such a cute story Judy.

Oh, Debbie! Everything is going to be great! I know what you mean about flying. I never got used to it, even after 23 years of military life, during which we crossed the Atlantic nine times. Even then, last year when I went to Spain, my anxiety also kicked in, specially because for the first time in many years, I was making the trip alone. Wow! That was scary! LOL I almost got off the plane while it was still on the runway here in San Antonio. The only things that saved me from doing so was the fact that the plane started to move. LOL The trip is long, for me it was 19 hours all together, but there is plenty of movies you guys can watch on the plane and most planes have WI-Fi- now, so I was able to entertain myself surfing the web, checking on my blog and emailing my family. it will go by fast. You guys are going to have a super great time and your blog and everything else will be fine while you are gone. Enjoy your Sunday!
Gina
I never knew you had a fear of flying. Me too. I have flown many times, but the last time was 1996. I just cannot bring myself to fly…and I fear, fly ever again. I didn’t have nearly as many fears when I was younger. Once I had my kids especially & now the older I get, the more fear I have about every. little. thing.
It’s so exciting that you’re going with your whole family though!! What fun! I’m sure they’ll all take good care of you & help ease your fears.
Shannon @ Fox Hollow Cottage
We’ve already determined I’m crazy…. so you can hang out with me anytime Debbie!! I think we all have our little ticks, you just spilled yours is the only difference. Sometimes voicing a fear(s) takes away lots of their power so it’s good you shared. Your family will be with you and you’ll be fine. I know you’re going to have the time of your life in Ireland. Alex has worked so hard, as has the family to support and make the trip possible. Go. Live. Enjoy!!!!
We will all be here when you get back 🙂 Waiting for pictures and to hear all about it. Hugs XO-Shan

Debbie, you were very brave to share your fears. I knew before I got to the comment section that you would have lots of support here, and that does my heart good. It’s awesome how just saying what you are going through opens the door for you to be blessed and loved by others!

Gasp! Your confession threw me because you are so brave to me!! 🙂 I hope the excitement of the journey and being with your family will overshadow the fear of flying. It’s going to be a wonderful trip of a lifetime and your son is very lucky to be able to take this trip with his family now–awesome! Don’t worry one tiny bit about this blog of yours. Even if it went completely wonky while you were away, we’d still love you tons.

You will forget all about the “flying thing” once you are in Ireland and enjoying every minute of it! It’s nice to get it off your chest every now and then!
Debbie
i might have missed this had you not mentioned it in the most recent post since I’m so hit and miss these days. I’m glad I didn’t. I wanted to tell you that I couldn’t possibly understand more. I have the same phobia of flying (and about a hundred more. I AM a nut case.) I totally understand how nerves coupled with hormones can make a mess out of even anticipation of a wonderful adventure. I am positive that once you get there it will all be so magical that you will wonder why you worried, but I “get” the worry.
And I’m so glad that your mom is going too. How fun this is going to be!!
Becca
Girl, you are NOT alone! I have a horrible fear of flying and a host of other things, too! Just get a prescription for a couple of Valium (NOT that you’ll take them, but, just knowing that you have them is all you’ll need … that’s what I did when we went to Punta Cana a few years ago). Annnnd, also, might want to have that warm guiness ON the flight. You guys are going to have a blast … what memories you will make!
