Hi there everyone! Today, I am sharing our Rustic mantel with a touch of whimsy. If you have been around for a while, you know I struggle with our mantel. It’s a weird set up and for the life of me I never understood why the builder put the opening for a tv over the mantel considering we couldn’t even set up the room that way if we wanted to. In other words, the couch could not be across from it. The pub room is off the family room and there would be no access to get around it. Whatev’s, we made due and we added our own flair of interest to the opening with a chande and mirror. With that said, I still always have a decorating dilemma on that stinkin mantel.
We recently added the tobacco barnwood shutters. I just shared our tobacco barnwood pantry door. Now you can see how it all comes together.
A blogging friend of mine Linda from Itsy bits and pieces sent me these vintage bingo cards. I adore them but did not know what exactly I was going to do with them. I love adding texture to the mantel per season. In fact, my favorite mantels are always my Fall mantels. I can add a lot of texture and color and feel it looks the best that time of year.
I used a roll of burlap with lace to drape across the mantel. There was my texture for the Spring and Summer months. Then I took some twine, added that and clipped on the bingo cards.
I love owls and sunflowers and feel they can be incorporated for all four seasons. That’s not an expert opinion btw..just my own.
The little bud vases came from Michaels. I thought they were so cute and would add a little splash of Spring and Summer. I won’t be changing this mantel out until the Fall season.
I added sunflowers and a burlap bow I made to the rustic wreath. Again, for texture and color.
Certainly is a bit quirky wouldn’t you say? I like it though and for me to actually like it this time of year is a bonus for all the family!
Did I tell you we charge for snacks and you have to wait to be seated when you come in?
I think my husband wants to ship me off. This was my birthday present. A vintage postal scale.
I have had the vintage purple bottles for a few years now. You can read the history on vintage purple bottles here.
It’s quite interesting. Thanks for stopping over today. If you are not a regular here, I sure would love to see you back again.
I share all things Home, crafts and recipes.

I LOVE your mantel, quirky or not. Just today I was shaking my head, looking at the sad condition of mine. You must have known I needed some ideas. 🙂

I always love how you dress your mantel for the seasons and “every day”…..Yes, it is amazing sometimes what builders will do without keeping in mind alternative functions….Can you drywall over the niche?….and love the postal scale…what a great scale and now you will have me noticing those purple bottles whenever I am antiquating!…

We thought about that at one time Shirley but decided against it for now. Perhaps somewhere down the line.

What clever mantle vignette! So many fun elements! I love your birthday present…so much personality. I thought the purple bottles might be some that you dyed with Rit but they are for real, huh? Very pretty.

Yes, those are real:) Thank you.

I love the rustic style of your home and also love that you chose to use sunflowers on the mantel. Thanks for sharing!

I love the bingo cards! What a cute way to dress up a mantel. I still have my Easter bunnies one mine and need to get them off of there before they multiply 🙂

hahaha..time for the bunnies to hop along!

I love your new mantel look…I just changed mine out for spring and summer…not a lot different from fall and winter, but a little.
I love my mantel just the way it is and don’t change much on it.
I like your owl…owls are always fun.

Owls are always fun anytime of year! I love to change up the mantel, but not this time of year as I mentioned.

You did a great job styling an area meant for another purpose. Sometimes builders don’t look at how people actually live and use the space and we end up with areas of no use.

I did the best I could Dawn, given what I am given LOL!

I love the mantle! I like that ‘nook’ and can see it looking fabulous for holidays! I want that turquoise owl! 🙂

Thanks:) I like him too, makes me smile.

Hi Debbie … I think your mantel is very interesting. The owl and the sunflowers give just the pop of color that it needs. I kinda like the niche as it gives more depth to show off you decorations. The mirror and the chandelier look great in there.
I just did a Summer mantel today and still tweaking it.
Blessings,

Thanks Audrey! You always say just the right things to make me smile.

Beautiful space! A true decorator is someone who takes the space and makes it work! That’s exactly what you did! Love every inch of it! I was so drawn and attracted to your fireplace screen… So unique!!!!

Thanks..it’s evolved over time, that’s for sure!

I loved the door on the second picture and the scale in the middle of the post (the one with the purple bottles). I guess you can get the scale in an antique store, but how or where did you get that door!? It looks so lovely and old…

We had the door custom made. We had to do some tweaking to get it to but heavy enough for the pantry door which gets a lot of use around here.
