Hey there! Today, I am sharing our guest room fluffing and a makeover. You can see the before guest bedroom here. Our guest room was in much need of a change. The mattress itself is comfy and for little as it is used that did not need replacing.
What did need replacing was the bed frame and headboard. After two moves, and two paint jobs, it just was not holding up very well anymore. The headboard was not even fully attached to the frame because I think the screws stripped.
You can see my Paint makeover I did back around 3 years ago with Annie Sloan chalk paint.
So during the Holiday hustle and bustle I got the bug to makeover the guest bedroom.
First, I went on line and googled iron headboards. I found a ton of course, but not in our price range. A few years back we replaced our bedroom set with an iron bed and it truly was an investment and one that will last a life time. I have no intentions of replacing it ever.
You may want to check out our Master suite while you are here. The bed came from Wesley Allen.
My Mom and sister were visiting at the time and my sister suggested I check overstock.com.
I did, and whaaaaaaaaaalaaaa….there was the bed I wanted for $168.00!
It was exactly what I was looking for.
I thought for that price, it probably is not very good quality, but again, this is for the guest room that only is used a few times a year.
Much to my husband’s surprise, he said it was pretty well made.
and easy to put together which is even better. I don’t have to hear the grumbling.
Most of the accessories remain the same. I love this burlap vintage framed art work. It is perfect for a guest room.
I replaced the bedding. Simple white coverlet by Cynthia Rowley found at Home goods. Pretty orange paisley print pillows too sold separate.
I wanted a splash of orange to compliment this little side table I had tucked in the corner of the room. Sometimes all the bedroom needs is a set of new linens to freshen it up. Changing your duvet or coverlet set each season is a fun way to refresh your space. I chose to stay neutral in the guest room.
I found this piece a few years ago at World Market. I loved the happy colors.
The rug is the perfect shape and size for next to the bed. As you can see we have the pergo flooring which can get a little chilly on your feet in the winter.
The rocking chair I have had for years. In fact, I think it too has had a few makeovers. It once was shabby chic style long ago.
Just some simple burlap fabric I used to reupholster the seat.
This throw blanket stole my heart. It’s wool and the detail is just gorgeous. In fact, this was the most expensive part of the bedding!
I splurged and spent 29.99 on this blanket. I typically would never spend that much on a throw blanket. But it does complete the bedding and ties in nicely with the room. I love that bohemian style, sorta laid back and hippy feeling I get from this room.
I’m certainly not on the same trends that are going on today. I don’t even know what is too popular. Seems I see the same thing across the board and in magazines and people follow them. I follow what I truly like and what is reflective of me, and us as a family in general. You have to be comfortable with your environment and what you make of your home.
The entire room makeover started with the Ceiling fan. You can read all about Why you should have a ceiling fan here.
I never thought I would go white in in this room for the bedding. But it really was the first bedding that jumped out at me. Lucy, nor the boys will be all over this bed, so why not lighten and brighten the room for the guests.

P.S. By the time you are reading this, I will be on a plane heading back home. My Mom is doing remarkably well in rehab. I feel confident enough to leave now and let her spread her wings and fly. I have a feeling she will be home very shortly. She truly is my hero and my inspiration.

Hi Debbie Dear! Oh, that’s wonderful news about your mother. You all have been in my prayers. Now I love your sweet bedroom. The bed is very pretty and what a price too! I love your bed linens, the white cover and shams and that throw! I love that throw and it looks marvelous with the little colorful side table which I’m just in love with! You may not remember, but you had a giveaway some years back of a Scentsy Jar and I won it. Since we’ve moved so many things have been in boxes until recently. I found my Scentsy Jar and pulled it out, poked the good smellies in it and my house smells wonderful. I love that Scentsy Jar! 🙂
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉

S glad to hear that your mom is doing well, and that you are headed home! The guest room reminds me a lot of mine, which is almost finished. I went with beige wall, white bedding and bright accessories, so I’m loving what you did. I want that headboard! That’s what my room is missing!

Debbie it’s been quite a road you’ve been on with your Mom. You and your sister have been her angels and I’m sure a great deal responsible for her successful recovery. I’m so glad you are able to leave and go home knowing she’s on the road to recovery.
Your guest bedroom looks fab! Love the new bed, especially the price! The bedding is fresh, colorful and attractive. That throw blanket has the same vibe as the World Market night stand- perfect tie in! I’m with you about going with your heart on how you decorate. It reflects your personality and sets the tone for your home. I’m sure your hubby and the boys are going to be delighted to have you back home! I bet you will be overjoyed to sleep in your own bed again too!

Room makeover is fabulous. I adore that blanket, especially because of the birds. I agree with decorating with what you love and with what speaks to you, not what is dictated by others. I could spend a few days visiting in this room! So glad your mom is on the mend and doing great.
