Hey everybody. I’m back!
So, if part of your spring cleaning
includes purging and organizing in your closet, then you may just come
across some belts that you no longer use.
Don’t throw them out…
Turn them into napkin rings!
Here is how…
Grab that old belt that you no longer
want and cut it into 5” strips (approximately.)
You can see in the picture below how I
dog-eared the ends on the left side v. the straight edge on the right
side. Your choice.
Drill holes on both ends.
Tip: If you run the leather all the
way to the end of the drill bit shaft (where it is smooth) it will
help smooth out the hole to minimize loose pieces of leather
fibers.
Then use your choice of tie to finish
it off.
Here, I used jute and tied a piece
through each hole.
Here, I used raffia and just ran one
long piece through the holes.
I did it a few different ways.
The raffia is my favorite.
A jute knot.
Spring ribbon.
A button embellishment.
It would look better with a larger
button, but I’m not a seamstress and I don’t have extra buttons on
hand.
It took me forever just to come up
with this little one!
Or, if you don’t like the tied-off
look, simply twist that to the back and have the smooth side
showing.
And add a monogram if you are so
inclined
If you have a lot of belts, just use
the end with the buckle and half of your work is already done for
you.
They don’t have to be matching belts.
Mismatched belts would be a better look anyway.
Different leathers, colors and
textures. Perfect.
Easter is coming up and this would be
a great touch to your dinner table – but leather is so versatile that
it can be used year-round for all occasions.
One belt will most likely give you
enough for a full table (steal one from the hubby!)

This is funny…I have posts coming out using old belts too. They are somewhat different than yours…but some of the uses are the same. I love how all us bloggers find creative ways to use old things! Very creative! ~Tammy

Great idea, Debbie! Love all the ways you’ve tied them off, but I think the monogram is my favorite. Now I have to see if my husband has any belts he’s not using! : )

Hi Debbie … thanks for the ideas. Mr. Z. just discarded one of his belts, so will give this a try. My daughter loves napkin rings, so will make some for her. Would like to find a hand-tooled leather one. I like the one with the buckle.
Blessings,
Audrey Z.
