Also known as shower bases, shower pans are designed to funnel all water from the shower into the drain, preventing it from ending up all over your bathroom floor. Shower pans come in various styles and sizes, which we are exploring in the current article.

Standard shower pan sizes
The average shower pan is square and measures 30×30 inches (76×76 cm). It’s the most common type of shower base found in US houses and apartments.
Corner shower pan sizes
A corner shower pan is usually 36 x 60 inches (91×152 cm), enough to ensure comfort while fitting the shower pan snugly in the corner of a bathroom. It’s ideal for tiny homes and RVs.
Rectangular shower pan size
A rectangular shower pan is longer than the standard type and has varying sizes: 32×48 inches (81×122 cm) for small, 36×54 inches (91×137 cm) for medium, or 42×60 inches (107×152 cm) to 48×60 inches (122×152 cm) for large.
Thanks to the generous space, rectangular shower bases provide more room for elaborate shower systems and people with mobility challenges.
Walk-in shower pan size
Walk-in showers have various dimensions, depending on the floor plan and bathroom design. They’re generally as small as 32×48 inches (81×122 cm) or as large as 48×60 inches (122×152 cm), just like rectangular shower pans.
Small shower pan size
Tiny shower pans are generally square and start at 24 x 24 inches (61 x 61 cm). Not all small shower pans meet ADA requirements, but they comply with ANSI safety standards.
Bathtub shower pan size
For bathrooms with combined tub-shower setups, the bathtub shower pan is the go-to choice. The standard bathtub is approximately 60 x 30 inches (152 x 76 cm), and the shower pan would typically match these dimensions.
Measuring your bathroom is the first step in choosing the right shower pan size. But you should also consider the safety and accessibility standards set by ANSI and ADA, together with who will use the shower. For instance, ADA guidelines recommended at least 36 x 36 inches (91 x 91 cm) for single-user bathrooms.
