I must be the first to admit, I was not the cutest pregnant girl! Seriously, I was huge! I only gained 35lbs with both of my pregnancies, but my A** was huge, my nose blew up, and I had lunch lady arms (no offense to lunch ladies) but some have been known to have some jiggly arms! I never felt healthier though, my hair was shiny, my nails grew nicely, and I had really big boobs for once in my life! I can remember a few comments that I will never forget. In spite of it all, I LOVED being Pregnant, and felt great the entire time…til my feet blew up like watermelons the week of! Here are my unforgettable comments…….
1.) “Holy cow…. you are huge, are you having twins”?
2.) “Oh I can tell you are having a boy because your nose spread”
3.) “You know your body is never going to be the same”
4.) “My labor was horrible I felt like I was going to die, hope yours is better”
Those are the most notable ones I can remember.
People where more polite though with holding doors open for me, helping me out with my groceries, etc….Ever since all of the above I told myself I would never say anything but wonderful things to a pregnant girl.
A close friend of mine just had a baby and the entire time, I told her how beautiful and glowing and fantastic she looked…and she did. I am sure most of you are the same way. And if you are NOT, please think before you say things, pregnant women are sensitive, and we could cry at the drop of a dime, or laugh at nothing.
That was me for sure.
My husband and I went to Friendly’s ice cream, toward the end of my pregnancy with Alex…all I wanted was a simple strawberry cone. We waited in line for 20 minutes on a very hot summer day, I got my cone, walked outside, and the entire scoop fell to the ground.
I dropped to the curb in tears and sobbed like a baby! Needless to say my husband gave up his cone LOL!
So tell me some good pregnancy stories.…….
and for the record both my deliveries were good.
Alex was 9.6lbs, however the nurse did say OMG his head is huge…not something you want to hear when you have it coming out your GINA!
I sucked him back in only for a moment and then he flew out!
Jack was 8.12lbs…both big boys!
I had to be induced both times early because they where growing fast! Must be all those PB&J’s I ate!
Ms. Bake-it
I cracked up at your post! Sorry, but I recall all too well the idiotic comments people made to me when I was pregnant as well as those my DIL is currently hearing. I also agree with you about the measure the belly game. If I had a hand in the selection of games played at my DIL’s baby shower, that would definitely not have been on the list. But, then again, I am not really into the games played at showers and even at my DIL’s shower I declined playing any of them.
BTW, I like your new header and background!

You had to bring this up? (note sarcasm)Oh, the joys of pregnancy!!!
I gained 50 lbs (mostly retained water) both times I was pregnant. When I was pregnant with my first, my boobs went from a 32A to a 38D in about 4 weeks ….owwwwwww. Also, I couldn't stand the smell or even the thought of chicken – I craved beef. During my first pregnancy Jack In the Box was running some chicken sandwich with mushrooms on TV. I would have to run out of the room if it came on. Regarding feet – If my husband didn't put on my shoes right when I got out of bed, I wouldn't have been able to put them on. As far as size …my now 5ft2 petite 17 year old daughter was 8 lbs 6 ounces & my second daughter was 9 lbs 6 ounces. Both were delivered by c-section. My youngest daughter was taken early or she might have been 10 pounds. BTW I am only 5ft 4. I don't remember any unforgettable comments – only long stares toward the end when I was as big as a blimp.
Oh, my waist was 43 inches – I think this was the first pregnancy. Was about 24" before. One good thing – I didn't get ANY stretch marks! That was a miracle.
Debbie
By a miracle, I did not get any stretch marks either!

Debbie, can you imagine the two of us walking down the street together 9 months pregnant? That would have been hilarious!
Vicki
OH Debbie, this is funny! For me to remember all things said would be quite a chore…I had 7! And was big with all of them. I remember the boobs and that I looked like I swallowed a watermelon..hey, that's one thing I heard a lot..or a basketball. Was true though, I was always skinny, even when PG..except the baby belly, so I looked funny (:
One thing I always heard was "Don't you know what causes that?" Or "Good hell, are you pregnant again!" So ya, be kind to the big, beautiful emotional women who endure all of this…Oh, I had all of them natural..was before the normal occurrence of epi's but my biggest was only 7 and a half pounds. Boy, didn't think I'd say so much…
Have a great rest of the week..
The warrior in me
OMG! Debbie! The 4th comment took the cake! I bet you remember who said that to you! Naah, don't post it here.
Your strawberry ice cream story is heart-breaking. I feel the picas when it comes to anything food- no i did NOT say i'm pregnant!
Loved your story. I bet the boys will too- when they grow up a bit MORE!!!

LOL I just warn pregnant women to stay out of arms reach of me. They always look puzzled. LOL The I warn them…I WILL rub your belly! Not that I want to, but for every time my belly got rubbed by total strangers, I decided to pass it on! LOL

I was a very fortunate woman and had the best pregnancy!!! I never particularly craved anything, was not sick one day, only gained about 25 lbs., felt good up until 24 hours before I had her. I loved, loved, loved being pregnant! I didn't get any unforgettable comments. Everyone was so kind and I heard a lot of "you just glow!" I did. I had suffered from miscarriage and infertility and I was just so darn happy to be pregnant! I would give anything to be pregnant again, but I don't think it is in the cards for us. I have had another miscarriage and have stopped taking fertility drugs as I felt like my ovaries were going to explode! I have to find a new doctor here and we may try for another year, but I am just so lucky to have Jemma!
I guess a funny OMG moment was when I was having contractions in Walmart the day before she came and as Tom would tell it, people were staring in horror as I would bend over to breathe through it! Didn't stop me that day. I went on to get my hair cut, eat lunch out, have an eye appointment and order new glasses!

BTW… I think that pregnant picture of you is adorable!!!! I love pregnant bellies!
Matty
I once asked a pregnant woman when she was due. Um……she wasn't pregnant.

hi debbie! thanks for following my blog!
As a newbie, i really appreciate that!!
loved this post, and i can toatlly relate with all the dumbness of people's comments when you are pregnant…its like normal social rules don't apply for some reason!! how stupid when you think of all those hormonal ups and downs we go thru!!!
Jan @ bobbypinsboardwalk
Great post! It always amazed me when people — total strangers– came up and touched my tummy. What is with that? Just because I was pregnant did not mean that my stomach was up for grabs.
Debbie
Ouch ouch and double ouch Matty! That's a bad one! Good point Jan…that never happened to my, but I know to friends it has…yes what gives people the right strangers I should say to start rubbing your belly…like what do they think you are a BUDDAH??! so funny! And Kathryn, yes you are so blessed to have Jemma! SHe is an amazing kid I can tell!!~ I feel like I am getting to know her….you know the feeling I am sure with my kids at this point:)
kim
Wow, is that you?! I gained a ton of weight with my first one. Had preclampsia, put to bed rest the last month and was purely miserable. My second pregnancy I only gained 25 lbs. and had no problems except she came very fast. Thirteen hours for the first one and two for the second.
Holly
People just think they can say and pretty much do anything to pregnant ladies…it is like when everyone comments because you are tall or short. During both of my pregnancies, I felt good…no crazy stories here. My last pregnancy I only gained 15 pounds and had her during the summer…when school started, people were asking where she came from…we didn't know you were pregnant..OY!
Charlotte's Color Specialist
That was too funny. I just wish the cloths were nicer when I was prego!
Can you send me your info (name, town etc) so I can start my blog post on your colorful home?
Thanks!
Trish
Ya a few months back all my posts were rants on why people even open their mouths to pregnant women if they dont have anything nice to say! I have gained only 25 lbs so far and due any minute I hope! When i was 7 months pregnant I looked ready to pop, people would always ask me when i was due, followed by their own answer…any day now? Uhh..no 3 more months ass wipe. Im only on my third kid but I have 2 toddlers and I get…what you guys dont have a tv? errr. thats just straight embarrassing. Ive always got the twins thing EVERY pregnancy, I just tend to get huge bellies, which Im ok with!
Michelle
This is an awesome post Debbie!I loved being pregnant! The one thing that really got me was a comment from my husband. He was trying to be supportive, I know, but while I was in labor with our first child, he had the nerve to ask me if it felt like muscle cramps!!! I was ready to deck him!! LOL
Mary
Despite the nonsense when all is said and done we end up holding beautiful babies. I giggled throughout this post marveling at your sense of humor. I hope you are having a terrific day, Debbie.
xinex
Wow, Debbie! You had big babies! Lucky for you to only have gained 35 lbs. I gained 55 each time. Sorry I cannot remember stuff told to me cause it's been so long ago…Christine
A New Mom
LOL…love your post! With my pregnancy everyone was pretty much nice to me; mostly because they felt so bad for me being on bedrest for 5mos.
Though, there was one person who told me I was having twins because I was so huge…grrr…but that was it.
Sabrina
Well don't feel too bad about the weight gain…I gained 60 with my first and 70 with my second!! And I delivered them both early (34 and 35 wks). What would have happened if I had made it to term?? I think I gained the recommended total amount in the first trimester…ack! Obviously, food aversions were NOT a problem.
Since I'm normally an inverted A cup, I loved my Playboy bunny sized prego boobs. Alas, they went away after weaning.
One funny remark that I can recall, is when a girl asked me if I was pregnant at Starbucks. I was only about 3 months along so I was a little shocked…it was my first shout out…I responded, "No, I'm just fat!" She turned WHITE…bad joke I know.
Oh and you are too tiny to have such giant babies! Mine were early little peanuts. They looked like wrinkled old men….but smaller. 🙂
Great post!
Luvdsun
Well, this may sound strange but I loved being pregnant. I could put away a Big Mac like no tomorrow. I ate anything I wanted. I was as big as a house too gaining 42 pounds. I only have one memorial meltdown to share I had while all my emotions were running wild. My husband was installing a ceiling fan in our first house that didn't have air conditioning. He thought this was the ticket. It was July and about 90 degrees. I was less than impressed with this fan since all it did was blow around the HOT air !!! He went out right after that and bought me a window air conditioner…now that was the TICKET. I slept like a baby that night. Miranda was born c-section because she was breech. We always tease her about being born butt first. She was 8lbs 6oz..21&1/2 inches. She's my one and only SUNSHINE and the LIGHT OF MY LIFE 🙂
Maxine
Well, I am 43 and expecting in 8 weeks and 1 day at this point!! My baby is going to be 22 this August. I am loving the way people treat you when you are pregnant, well except my husbands Family, to them it's like nothing is even happening, but oh well, I was never their choice!! It seems to most when they see your stomach they have a a smile, kind words and want to rub your stomach, and that always makes me feel really good. What I find interesting it that the pregnancy makes me feel 21,sometimes, meaning, I feel concerned about handling labor, and breast feeding, something that I have three times befor, but it was so long ago, I seem to have forgot, how well, or not, that I handled it!! I just took a breast feeding class, after breast feeding all three of my kids, can you imagine, but, I felt the need to know all that I could to be the best mom, I can be, it gave every one there a great laugh, and I did not mind one bit. I enjoyed the breast feeding class, and the company of other pregnant mom's!!Looking forward to taking the birthing classes to this month.I am sure, I will gets some laughs there to. This is my second life, I guess, Hope my story is helpful to some one!! I am loving this experiance with Husband of 12 years, so much better then my first marriage, in every way!! Except the In law's were better the first time around!! Great Husband or great In laws, I'll take the great Husband anyday!! LOL
Debbie
Maxine…congrats to you WOW!! You go girl I am the same age! No prego for me…..you will do great, probably the best ever actually. When you get to be our age we are more confident in every way…..and don't stress on the breast feeding thing, if you can do it great, if not….I just heard a recent study there is no more or less benefit to it opposed to formula, so all those years of women worrying and struggling for nothing! Take care and best of luck to you!
Angie
OH my goodness Debbie I almost spit my tea all over the computer when I read your "gina" comment. To funny!!
LauraBeth
I absolutely LOVED being pregnant – how sad is that! My favorite memory is when my husband came home in his ugly, loud company truck and I met him in the driveway, crying hysterically.
He asked, "What's wrong?"
I responded, tearfully, "I don't know!"
Pregnant much?
Mumsy
The one comment that bothered me the most was "you walk like a duck" when I was 2 weeks away from giving birth..
Great post, Debbie!

My favorite is always the accusation of having twins. With my first pregnancy was rough, I had preclampsia/hypertension, so I was extremely swollen(thus the induction). I remember going back in for a checkup 4 or 5 days after(to check c-section site). The doctor that discharged me was pregnant at the same time and she looked at me and asked when I was due. I refrained from slapping her, but only because SHE was pregnant!! If it tells you anything, I gained 53 pounds, and lost 30 pounds the first week I was home from the hospital.
changapeluda
"no offense to lunch ladies" !
hee hee hee!
Omg i'm still agiggle!

I was huge with each one of mine. Each time I showed sooner and sooner. People would be asking me at 5 months if I was due any day, I got to where I just laughed. I have 5 children.
