How do I Mod Podge napkins to a pizza pan?
Follow these instructions to easily transform an ordinary pizza pan into a unique piece of kitchen art using napkins and Mod Podge:
1. Gather your materials
- Pizza pan. I bought mine from Dollar Tree
- Napkins with the desired pattern or design. I found scalloped napkins with a floral pattern at Dollar Tree and also used them to Mod Podge napkins on glass
- Mod Podge
- Chalky paint
- Foam brush
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Parchment paper
- Clear acrylic sealer (optional)
- Embellishments, such as faux flowers or ribbons (optional). I used a stem of faux lavender from Dollar Tree, together with a rose magnet and a bee tack
2. Prepare the pizza pan
- Begin by cleaning your pizza pan thoroughly to remove any grease or residue.
- Once clean, apply a base coat of chalky paint using a paintbrush. Chalky paint is preferred over acrylic paint because it adheres better to metal surfaces and provides an excellent base for the napkins and Mod Podge.
- Allow the chalky paint to dry for about an hour before proceeding.
3. Cut and position the napkins
- Start by separating the layers of the napkin, keeping only the printed top layer.
- Cut the napkins into the desired shape and size, taking into consideration the design you want to achieve on the pizza pan.
- Arrange the napkin pieces on the painted pizza pan, experimenting with different layouts until you find one that appeals to you.
4. Apply Mod Podge to the pizza pan
- Using a foam brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the painted pizza pan.
- Carefully place the napkin pieces on the wet surface, adjusting their position as needed.
- Gently smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles with your fingers, taking care not to tear the napkin.
5. Seal the napkins with Mod Podge
- Once the napkins are in place, apply a top coat of Mod Podge using the foam brush. This will seal the napkins onto the pizza pan and protect the design.
- Allow the Mod Podge to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions, adding more coats if necessary.
6. Make finishing touches and apply a clear acrylic sealer
- After the Mod Podge has dried, inspect your pizza pan to ensure that the napkins securely adhere and the design is smooth.
- If desired, apply a clear acrylic sealer to further protect the surface and add a glossy or matte finish, depending on your preference.
- Allow the sealer to dry and cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
To care for your personalized pizza pan, clean it gently with a damp cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers.
More creative crafts using pizza pans
The possibilities are endless when it comes to upcycling pizza pans. Experiment with different materials and techniques to create personalized crafts that suit your style and needs. Here are some terrific examples:
- Magnetic board: Paint the pizza pan with a base coat, and then add a layer of magnetic paint. Decorate the edges with washi tape, fabric, or ribbons, and use it as a magnetic board for organizing notes, photos, or to-do lists.
- Wall clock: Transform the pizza pan into a custom wall clock by painting it with your desired color or design. Attach a clock mechanism and clock hands, and you will have a unique, functional piece of wall art.
- Serving tray: Add handles to the sides of the pizza pan and use it as a stylish serving tray. You can decorate it with paint, stencils, or decoupage to match your home decor.
- Chalkboard: Apply chalkboard paint to the pizza pan, allowing it to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Add a decorative frame, if desired, and use it as a menu board, message center, or calendar.
- Wreath: Attach faux flowers, greenery, ribbons, or seasonal decorations to the pizza pan to create a beautiful wreath for your front door or interior wall.
- Garden art: Paint the pizza pan with weather-resistant paint and attach it to a stake or hang it in your garden as a decorative piece. You can also create a mosaic design with glass or ceramic tiles for a more detailed look.
- Lazy Susan: Attach a rotating base (available at hardware stores) to the bottom of the pizza pan and use it as a Lazy Susan for your dining table, making it easy for everyone to reach condiments and shared dishes.
- Kids’ art station: Paint the pizza pan with a fun design and attach a clip or magnetic strip for holding paper. Hang it on the wall at a child’s height to create an art station where they can draw, paint, or color.
- Jewelry organizer: Attach small hooks or knobs around the edge of the pizza pan, and use it as a hanging jewelry organizer for necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
- Photo collage: Arrange printed photos on the pizza pan and secure them with Mod Podge or adhesive photo corners. Add a decorative frame, if desired, and hang it on the wall as a unique photo collage.

Debbie what kind of paint is used for the pizza pans? I love them
debbiedoo's
chalky paint. I linked some from Amazon at the bottom. You don’t want to use acrylic as it won’t adhere.
Sandy
Love it!

debbiedoo's
Sure you can do that. Use a Mod Podge that is formulated for paper. Mod Podge has a variety of special formulas. Just be sure to use the right one. Have fun.
Alicia
What do you use as a hanger?
debbiedoo's
You can use ribbon, twine, burlap, etc. Just hot glue it to the back.

Really pretty Debbie. Love the napkins. My kind of colors! Just the right touch as always.

Just wondering. I have a couple of pizza pans from dollar tree, but they look like they might be non-stick. Does it matter? Or will it be fine if I just do a light all over sand of them before painting or gluing?

Should be fine Heather. Enjoy
