Good day everyone!
The last thing I should have been doing yesterday is walking around Michaels for an hour. Surely, I have better things to do with my time. I have to say though, it was quite relaxing. I had no rhyme or reason to go there. I just wanted to find some inspiration to create some wall art for upstairs. Since we had it painted I have not put one thing back on the walls in my loft area. I admit, I like the look of freshly painted walls, but I am over it now.
Today, I am sharing how to make your own canvas art. I wanted to get this idea out there because the linen canvases were all marked down to 70% off. I scored them for $4.49 each. I purchased 3.
I picked up a few other supplies not knowing what direction I would head in with this project.
All I knew is I wanted colorful with a dash of whimsy.
When all was said and done, I achieved just that.
Let me give you some basics.
First I took these pretty BOHO paper doilies and cut them in half. (Everything shown here was picked up from Michaels on sale)
I only did two on this canvas. I then used my mod podge to adhere them on the canvas. I painted the canvas section with the mod podge where I wanted the doily and then adhered the fun paper and painted over that, gently rubbing down as I went along.
After the doilies dried I then took my pretty paisley stencil and stenciled on the canvas where I thought the placement would look best.
I hot glued the initial M to the canvas. At that point I decided the M looked too plain. So I took one of the doilies and placed it on top of the M and stenciled it:) I also love the fact that the canvas has nail head trim.
Ahhhh..that was the finishing touch my art needed. Monogram -everything is big here in the south!
And of course a little crocheted flower!
I absolutely love it. I plan on making the other two canvases soon. Of course they will be all different.
And here they are all complete and hung.

What do you think? FUN right? Go out and get your canvases while they still have them. You can’t beat your own one of a kind art work for less than $10.00.
If you are new here, welcome. I would love to see you back again. you can check out some of my galleries while you are here.

I have two canvases I picked up somewhere in my closet. I’ve never quite decided what to do with them. You’ve given me some great ideas here!

I love this. Monogram stuff is starting to get big where I live in the Midwest. Its interesting your letter choice as I have the M initial for our family’s last name. That would be really cute on our fireplace.

How cute is that!!! The stencilling on the letter is the frosting on the cake, Debbie! I love it!

Wow!
That is so great. I just loved all the art tips.

Yeah, I can get in a lot of trouble at Michael’s! In a lot less than an hour! I like your idea with the canvases and initials. Some ideas a percolating in my head. Gotta get over to Michael’s!

I see by the comments, that your “doily” art canvas was done back in May, maybe? Also you live down south somewhere? Anyway I went to my local Michaels and they did not have those doilies….darn…But if you could tell me the name of the company, maybe I could get them on line. I have never seen any like those and of course now that I want some, they are nowhere to be found…lol. I just came across your site and now am enjoying all your “stuff” Thanks for your time.

Hi Janice, yes I initially did a piece on a fabric canvas. This one was on a painters canvas. The name of the company is recollections. They have a large brand of scrap booking materials too I believe. I hope you can find them. Best of luck and I am so happy you are here!
