Winter snowy pine cone craft
Hi there! Welcome. Today, I am sharing how to make winter snowy pine cone craft that will be beautiful for the winter season, that make for a pretty display. This is pretty much almost a free craft project. You can enjoy doing this craft with family, kids, the grands or a gals evening get together. First, collect an array of pine cones from the yard. We are loaded with pine trees here so there is never a need to go to the craft store and purchase them. However, if need be you can find them and they are pretty reasonable. If you purchase them from the store you will not have to do the next step.
First things first! Let’s get rid of the critters:Did you know tiny little spiders and other insects love to live in pine cones? They do, trust me, and the last thing you want is them in your house. They are teeny-tiny and loaded with them.
First soak your pine cones for about 30 minutes in about ½ cup of vinegar and water. You can simply do this in your kitchen sink. Then proceed with the oven method. Baking your pine cones on a low temperature for about a half an hour can be just the thing to keep your home from unwanted pests. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees and place your pine cones on a foil lined baking sheet or casserole dish. Place the pine cones in the oven, making sure to check them often so they don’t burn. Once the pine cones have opened up and the sap has had a chance to seep out and dry up, the pine cones are done. This should only take about 30 minutes.
Supplies needed:
Pine cones
Spray paint
faux spray snow
pretty bowl for display
faux cardinal and winter greenery
When I spray paint I like to use a box. Makes clean up easy. As you can see I used a matte metallic aluminum color by Krylon. You could use white if you do not have any faux snow on hand or can’t find it at the craft stores.
After I spray painted the pine cones and let them dry, I then used the faux snow and
gave them a good spray.
The coverage was perfect after only one coat of spray paint.
I love the snowy look after one coat of the snow in a can. Again, I do all my spraying in a box to avoid mess and clean up.
The cardinal and greenery spring add a nice addition to the winter bowl display.
You can find these little picks and sprigs at dollar tree or your local craft store. I found mine at the dollar tree.
As you can see I lightly sprayed the bowl as well to have the snowy winter look.

So get collecting those pine cones! These will be a perfect craft project for after Christmas when you want to add a touch of the winter season. Everything always looks so bare after the holiday.

Your painted pine cones are very pretty. I like to bring nature inside too; especially at Christmas. We have two huge pines in our yard so, like you, I have an abundance of cones to craft with. Lovely little display, Debbie. Thanks for the information on “cleaning” your pinecones. I had heard you should do something to them before bringing them into your house, but couldn’t remember what it was. I love pinecones and have been collecting them for years. I have quite a few and some quite big ones from N. Carolina when I visited once.
So thanks for the reminder that I can do something creative and simple with my own pinecones.

can u suggest how to make them scented with a favorite Essential Oil or something else u wd prefer?
Sure Pat you can use essential oils, like a cinnamon would be lovely. I would imagine just a drop or two on each pine cone would do the trick. I have never done it before, so I don’t know how to advise.
Does it smell like spray paint??
Nothing that I noticed. I didn’t hold them up to my nose though and smell them. You can always add a sprinkle of essential oils on them as well and that would take care of any issue with smell.
