Hi Everyone!
I want to thank Debbie so much for having me here today to share my Fixer-Upper Farmhouse with you. I always love the chance to poke around other people’s houses in these tours so it’s fun to get to do this here today. Let me introduce myself: I’m Courtenay and I blog at The Creek Line House.
And this is The Creek Line House!
Well, this is our house 2 years ago when we left our big city lives to move back to my husband’s home town and buy this house out in the country. Since then we’ve added a fancy new metal roof, but that’s about all that’s changed on the outside. Honestly, it needs a good powerwashing right now, so it’s better we use this picture for today. 🙂
There’s always so so much to do around here and we have years and years of hard work ahead of us, but who can complain with a view like this?
That little clump of trees is where our house is.
Let’s step inside!
Everyone we know just comes to the side door and enters through the mudroom off the kitchen. Here it is this year all decorated for Fall!
You can see a little more of the room in this picture from last Fall.
It looks pretty cute, right? This whole room is actually on a bit of a slant and needs to be ripped right off the house and rebuilt. Well, that’s what happens when your house is 113 years old! I told you we had our work cut out for us!
This is the real front entrance to the house. You can see there isn’t much room here, so it really just gets used as a hallway most of the time.
From the mudroom, you enter into the kitchen. It’s a nice big room with space for a big table, which is good because of course, the formal dining room needs to be completely gutted and redone too.
We’d really like to do a complete remodel in here, but I think I’m starting to lean towards just painting out the cabinets while we wait to be able to do that. That’s all thanks to my awesome readers, by the way! I said I didn’t want to waste my time, but they insisted I should think about it. They were right, as always!
Speaking of doing projects just to make things a little nicer “in the meantime” while we wait to be able to do the big renos….
This Spring I spent a couple of weeks giving our main bathroom a quick face lift.
Here’s the before:
And what I ended up with!
I love it so much and the whole thing only cost me about $150! Money well spent! I love having a bathroom that doesn’t give me the creeps and it makes me a whole lot less anxious to try to renovate the entire house all at once.
On to the next room!
This is the living room. It’s definitely in need of some serious love, but we’ve managed to make it feel cozy and comfortable for now.
The last room I’m going to show you today is our master bedroom. It’s kind of my pride and joy right now. Again, it was a case of me getting fed up with waiting to save up our time and money to do a big renovation, so I just made it pretty enough “for now” and I ended up loving it!
Here’s the “before”.
I know. Eek.
Here’s how it’s looking today!
So that’s our house so far! Right now we’re working on a nursery for our new baby boy about to be born in a couple of months. We’ve completely gutted it and put in a new ceiling, walls, built-ins, flooring, trim work, lighting, everything. It’s taken us about a year on and off, but it’s finally going to be ready in a few weeks! Well, it’s going to have to be! Stay tuned for that if you love seeing nursery reveals. Or crazy people taking on gigantic projects that take an entire year.

Everything looks fabulous – I wish I had a covered porch!!!
Courtenay
Thanks, Anne! I wish I did too. Ours is more of a semi-functionalmud room really, and it needs work, but a covered porch is on the (very long) list!
Kris
Everything looks gorgeous. The character of the old farmhouse is awesome. Love all the pretty decor. That porch is toooooo sweet.
Kris
Courtenay
Thanks so much, Kris! You’re so sweet!
Kim
Cute cute home and oh, how I love the checks in the bedroom.
Courtenay
Thanks, Kim! I can’t get enough of the checks either. I keep having to restrain myself from having them in every room of the house!
Shelly
I have an antique iron art panel bed and would love to replicate the bedding you have in this beautiful room. Could you give me information on where to find the pillows and checked bedding? Thank you!

Jane
Debbie and Courtenay…thanks for a great tour of a great home with SO much charm! I know there is a lot to do but the direction they are going is so perfect for a farmhouse! I love that big kitchen, and yes, I would do a weekend job painting the cabinets without disassembling them. The bedroom makeover is awesome! I have to check out this blog, it will be so fun to see how everything progresses!
XO,
Jane
Courtenay
Jane, I’m so glad you endorse the idea of painting the cabinets without disassembling them, because that’s exactly what I’ve been planning on doing. 🙂

Adorable home tour!
I wouldn’t touch those beautiful oak cabinets! OH MY WORD. They’re gorgeous. I know people that would kill for those. Painted cabinets will be out and wood will be back. Just you wait! 🙂 You’re so lucky to have these by default. Try changing out the brass knobs for oil rubbed bronze or stainless. You might change your mind!
Shirley@housepitalitydesigns
Beautiful home Courtenay….the master bedroom transformation is amazing…..thanks Debbie for presenting this beautiful farmhouse of Courtenay’s today….have a wonderful weekend!
Tina
Very nice home. Is your couch slip covered. We have a similar style couch and I can’t find a slip cover for it because of the separate pillows on the back of the couch.,
Rae Henderson
I love your home.. You are very lucky to be able to live in the country. Your baby boy will have a wonderful life.

Okay I love every single room. I think I shall pin each and every one.
Mary Ann
I love the house… and I’ll tell you what else I love… that Courtenay was not afraid to show us her vinyl floors throughout… it’s so refreshing to see someone not try to hide things because we all have to live with stuff like this. I think the bedroom is absolutely wonderful, and the bathroom… great!
Pat
First of all, I LOVE the outside! Nothing like being in nature ~ 🙂 Your home is beautiful! I agree with painting the kitchen cabinets. One suggestion…can the little wall piece near the refrigerator be removed? That would add a bit of visual space. You’ve done such a wonderful job on everything!! Love the checks too ~
Thanks to both of you for sharing!

Your bathroom update is really nice. I just found your blog by way of Pinterest as I did a search for “cozy farmhouse”. I just purchased a very small old farmhouse and am looking forward to living in it. I won’t be moving into mine probably until next year so it is fun looking thru your farmhouse in the meantime.
Amanda
I love your desk in the dining room, where did you get it? It adds such a clean feel. We are trying to find pieces that transition a bar area in our home to our living room.

Wow! It’s lovely! I want your bed! Where did you get it?
Valerie Boatwright
Your master BR is charming. Just curious…Are your closet doors painted with chalkboard paint? Or are they “permanently” painted to resemble rustic doors? Either way, I LOVE it!
