First I have to tell you that I am simply thrilled today to be here at Debbiedoo’s sharing with you our family home.
When Debbie so graciously invited me to do a house tour, I warned her that our home contained not only a mish mash of furnishings, but also a multitude of thrifty items scattered throughout the house.
Welcome Barbara from 21 Rosemary lane.
Most of our furniture is either very old, or from a garage sale, a road side find, and the always exciting Restore score. End result, eclectic living on a shoestring budget and, everything has its story! We have two school age children and a very big giant black dog named Buster, so the thought of buying new, on more than one level, was not going to fly in our hectic household.
This year our mid-century expanded Cape Cod will be celebrating her 40th year on the block and we’ve been here for 10 of those years. I chose to show you spring time photos of our home’s exterior as it has been pretty dreary here lately, and I am longing to see some green!
So now let’s start our tour with the entry.
Chris a.k.a. Mr. Rosemary Lane, put up the entry way’s chair rail and wainscoting. Nice job Mr. RL!
From the entry we’ll move into our main living space…which we like to call…the living room. This is were we hang out as a family.
Most of the furniture in this room was a yard sale find or what I call a yard sale casualty.
Mr. Rosemary Lane is currently working on giving our fireplace a new wood mantel and surround. Can’t wait to see how it looks all painted.
From our living room we will now enter the heart of our home…the kitchen.
I love this space because of the sheer size of the room, it was what truly sold me on the house.
The bead board back splash was added last winter by Mr. RL and the total cost of the project came in at just under $50.
Next to the kitchen is our dining room in Hunting Coat Red. We painted it 10 years ago when jewel tones were all the rage.
I think we will be looking at changing the color this year, although I do love the red at Christmas.
Now let’s take a step outside to the screened-in porch.
This patio was already here when we moved in, only it was pretty pathetic in appearance. The concrete floor was a plain gray and the inside of the space was only primed never painted. So we painted all the wood and then yes…I painted the concrete floor. Give this gal a brush and you never know what will happen!
Can you believe the wicker love seat was a roadside find?
So was this glass serving cart.
Oh my, I hope you are not too tired to head on upstairs.
First up is our bedroom. This room needs a little more attention like maybe a faux paint treatment on the walls. It’s on my to-do list!
I found these sweet vintage suitcases at an antiques mall in upstate Pennsylvania.
Next up is Michael’s room. Michael loves anything to do with travel. Boats, cars, trains, planes, all of them seem to fascinate my little guy.
The dressers originally belonged to me and my sister when we were little girls so it must be about 45 years old.
Now after seeing all the cool bold color of Michael’s room, we are going to jump to the girly pinks and purples of Grace’s room. (Shhhh…don’t tell Michael but I think this room is my favorite!)
This vanity was a $5 score my sister made at a yard sale 2 years ago. I simply sanded down the piece and then sprayed the body this funky fun Watermelon pink. The top got a coat of metallic silver.
The dresser, nightstand and little shelf were purchased by my parents in the 1950’s.
And that will complete the tour.
Thank you again Debbie so very much for inviting me to your wonderful blog and allowing me to share my thrifty home with your readers. I hope you enjoyed the tour!!!
I enjoyed that tour so much Barbara!
Thank you.
If you are not familiar with Barbara and her blog, please hop on over and say hello to make her day.

Barbara’s home is beautiful! It’s so nice to see the full tour. 🙂 Nothing in that house looks like a “roadside casualty”. It’s all just right.
Kris
Barbara’s home is so warm, cozy and inviting. I love every room. I think that porch is killer and Grace and Michael’s rooms are adorable. I love that she has old pieces from her childhood in her kids rooms. That is so sweet to have her kids re loving pieces from her childhood. That is really touching.

Just coming over from Debbiedoo’s, your house is just lovely. I can’t believe how clean and tidy your whole house is at the same time! I would have to take pictures of just a couple of rooms at a time as that’s about all that I can ever get clean and tidy before others get messy! I LOOOOVE your screened in porch – such great architecture!

Thank you so much for the tour! Very lovely! Your home has such a comfortable feel to it. I especially like the pieces that have been passed down in the family. They always mean so much. I was thinking when you mentioned the wicker piece & glass table, I must be living in the wrong area. I have NEVER seen any “roadside” pieces that could be made over into any thing salvageable. I am big on garage sales & places like Traders’s World where you can peruse and find items at a good price, sometimes for a steal! Thanks again!
Kris
Hey Debbie, what a fun tour! She is my kind of gal!!! LOVE your paisley background….GROOVY!!!

I so enjoyed this tour as I have only seen bits and pieces of Barbara’s home on her blog. Beautiful. Each room has it’s own style yet it all blends so well, cozy and inviting. I love the huge kitchen and the kid’s room are so sweet. I wish I was as great a thrifter and fixer-upper as Barbara is! The furniture in her home is just amazing. I really love the Frenchy pink vanity in Grace’s room and that painted porch floor is awesome! Great tour!
