Goodwill transformation Take II {Newbie party started}

One thing about shopping at thrift stores {Goodwill} of course, they are cheaper, most of the time, and for two it is fun to transform the piece to make it your own.

I bought this shelf a few years back for a few bucks, and just spray painted it a pretty blue.

Hung it in the boys hang out room.

I have more or less decorated this room to my liking, and honestly, they could care less what it looks like.

They have never said Mom this room is not for us.

They have their bedrooms which are personal to them.

Anyhoot,

Here was the original. I love Halloween, so sorry, I dug this picture out form my archives to show you the original blue shelf.

First and foremost are the Family rules.  The boys acted very silly when I asked them to read it.

They started jumping up and down and pinky promising eachother, and just plain ole silly acting.

It was funny…but they do follow these rules and that is all that counts!

I love this cute little Live art…very hip!

I painted the shelf with some left over Walmart {antique white},  then heavily distressed it.

I like how the blue peeks thru.

Brightens up the corner.  Oops I just noticed I did not snip off the price tag on the vase…

This is a cute little corner if I do say so myself.

  36. I’m actually getting surprised with how expensive Goodwill is starting to become in our area. I guess that they’ve caught on that there are so many of us repurposers (is that a word) out there who have found out that buying second hand makes for some beautiful repurposing…like your lovely little shelf.

    Have a splendid day, Debbie!

    • I know – mine is getting a little pricey (for Goodwill) as well. Clothing and books are still a steal, but the other things are definitely going up.

Liking your new shelf color and the rules art Deb!!

    • I totally agree!!! Some items can be found brand new for close to the same price!! Makes me sad because I LOVE goodwill!

  37. I love the family rules, Debbie!

  38. Gotta love a goodwill transformation and this one looks great Debbie! I love how the blue is peaking through.

  39. I love the change..the blue really goes well with the drapes….funny how just a little paint makes such a big difference….have a wonderful day and thanks for hosting!

  49. Your shelf is so cute and fresh and bright now. I like the new paint job. I so want two shelves to go in my kitchen over my black desk. I hadn’t thought of checking out the Goodwill for them. That’s a great idea. I am eyeing those drapes in this room too. Love that fabric!

  50. thanks for hosting i have the same family rules in my kitchen love them

  51. Hello Debbie,
I love how you let some of the blue peek through on your shelf re-vamp, very chic! The letters that spell ‘Live’ are really cute, did you make those yourself and if so, what from. I want to thank you for all your help as I started on my blogging journey! It’s only been 5 months but, but I’ve learned so much and met so many wonderful bloggers through this party. I wanted you to know I do appreciate all that you do to make the transition into blogland easier. I’m at 83 followers now and soon won’t be able to participate in the Newbie party. But I’ll still stop in to visit and see what you’ve been up to. Just wanted to say thank you now in case I get sidetracked when the time comes. -_^ Thanks for hosting another great party!

  52. Debbie, I have to tell you that this post gives me a push to go back to the thrift store and pick up the shelf I saw the other day, (looks almost like yours but in such a yucky color). I looked at it but didn’t know what to do with it so I walk away..

Now I know! Thanks for the idea!

  53. Dearest Debbie, I am brand new to blogging and I have a new blog that was first published on May 2 this year. I love the idea that you would take the time to help us newbies out, but my problem is I am so new, I don’t know how to link! I have a post already picked out of a goodwill item I refurbished, but that’s as far as I got. Will it be a different theme next week? Please tell me how to link and what the subject will be next week, and I would love to participate! Thanks again, Judy

  54. Deborah says:

    Debbie, Love the transformation!
Just opened my Country Woman magazine and what do I see inside but a picture of your kitchen sick area! Love it! Just had to let you know, which you probably already do but I recognized it right off. Believe this picture was taken some time bake though. Have fun and keep inspiring us.
